Humboldt County: Every Tree Is A Ghost Story

These images were made in and around Redwood National and State Parks. We don’t know why redwoods can grow for thousands of years, but they do have large amounts of fire and insect resistance to aid their resilience. Even when chopped down, the trees can regenerate from a stump. When redwoods die, they infuse a high level of nutrients back into the soil which help make up for what is lost in the heavy rainfalls of the Pacific Northwest. This series celebrates the ecosystem's in between parts which connect us to life and death in everyday ways.
